AGIA successfully conducted its 2017 Annual Convention in the City of Pines

Auditors play a significant role in keeping government agencies and employees in check, so that we may all serve our constituents better. We appreciate all the hard work and effort you have put into bringing together exceptional people drawn together by the same passion to help bring good governance and sustainable development to internal auditors in our country.”

This was articulated by this year’s convention Keynote Speaker, Vice-President Maria Leonor `Leni’ Gerona Robredo, in a video message presented in CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City. Themed “Strengthening the Role of AGIA in the Government’s Thrust on Good Governance”, this year’s convention, held from October 4-6, 2017, gathered an unprecedented number of participants from various national government agencies, GOCCs, LGUs and SUCs performing internal audit and other audit-related functions. A variety of topics were presented by experts in the field, which included Work-Life Balance by DOH Asst. Secretary Enrique A Tayag; Internal Audit for LGUs and Other Government Agencies by DBM Directors Ms. Liza B. Fangsilat and Mr. Gerald R. Janda, respectively;  The Role of Internal Auditors in Internal Control and Implementing the COSO Framework Principles in Internal Audit,  by Mr. Arnold A. Aguilas and Ms. Kristine Lea A. Mercado, respectively, both from the Asian Development Bank (ADB); Financial Literacy by Ms. Rochelle D. Tomas of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; and Integrity Management Program by Atty. Froilan D. Montalban, Jr. of the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs, Office of the President. 

Officials of the host city, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Benguet Governor Crescencio C. Pacalso and Congressman Mark C. Go, made their presence felt thru their respective representatives who welcomed the participants in the form of cultural dance numbers depicting their rich cultural heritage.

Highlights of the 3-day convention were the awarding of winners of the Search for Government Offices with Innovations and/or Best Practices in Internal Auditing for CY 2017, and the election of a new set of Board of Directors who will sit in the AGIA Board from 2018-2021.
